International Youth Day 2022
Published: Oct 7, 2022 Reading time: 2 minutesYoung people are often the main agents of change and progress in society. That is why, usually, society counts on them to make things happen. However, to leverage society’s full potential, all generations should be involved in the change-making process. In this respect, this year’s International Youth Day was marked under the theme “Intergenerational solidarity: creating a world for all ages.” This conveys the concept of unity and integration, enabling all generations to make their voices heard. With this in mind, to celebrate International Youth Day, People in Need—with EU funds—organised activities in the Goris community. These activities were organised within the framework of the “REACT: Relief and Early Recovery for People Affected by Conflict in Armenia” project.
The activities started in the morning and included people from different age groups. People in Need-established and EU-funded Child-friendly spaces also partook in the events. Participation in these events was encouraged for children, most of whom are displaced. The children from the held an exhibition-fair and sold their handicrafts. On their own initiative, all proceeds will be donated to the retirement community in Goris. They felt happy and enthusiastic due to the positive feedback they received from the visitors. As Varduhi Dadunts, Country Director of PIN Armenia, noted, “They are our today’s children and tomorrow’s youth.” Thus, they should be able to express themselves and feel valued as an integral part of society.
To make the day even more notable, a concert concluded the all-day celebrations in the evening. Arsen and Artur Safaryans, well-known singers in Armenia, filled people’s hearts with happiness and unforgettable memories through their songs. Many people from different communities gathered in Goris to celebrate International Youth Day. Those who were unaware of the Child-friendly spaces operating in the Goris community could learn more about their activities during the concert.
The ambience in Goris was festive and full of hope. The concept of intergenerational solidarity was in the air. Both children and adults were happy to be a part of it, and be heard. The impressions from the International Youth Day celebrations will be remembered.
